Well, I think you know what’s coming now. The “How I tried to do something and ended up with something completely different.” Ha, you are wrong! All went according to plan. Except the fact that I did not have one.
Ok, that’s not totally true. After months of absence I wanted to do some acid again. (The music, not the drug!) But in the last time I played a lot around with my Moog Labyrinth. A wicked piece of instrument. It’s core is randomness. Since that most of the time works very well, I decided to add some random so my Mariana 303 preset. Which does not really sound like a 303. But you can make it squeak. Which I did. Think I never before used to much effects… Delay Spray (sometimes frozen), MF-101S Filter and MF-103S Phayer, Limiter, Delay, LFO with panning for the frozen sections…
The bass line is pretty basic, but it really drives the song forward.
I added a basic drum beat, which in combination of some snare hits sounds almost like a DnB breakbeat, but is not broken and goes instead with full force along. But this does not qualify the song to be uploaded here. To I came here and noticed an ed pick created by somebody I was not aware of. (Even though he is longer here than I am and I did like a couple remixes more than a decade ago…)
DJDecay had some heavy rap used along with a break beat. And I wanted to remix “Amigos wit egos” by Forensic for an eternity, but always failed. I gave it a try and it matched like a charm.
Now came the part when I missed some sleep and came quite late to work. :) Over all it just took a couples hours of work to blend everything together. Chopped and shortened Forensic quite. And added a adlib from the Beastie Boys (yay!). Totally forget that they have been an essential part when ccmixter was born.
Back to “La Ceinture d Orion (Decay Breakbeat Mix)”. There are a lot of different melodic parts inside. Something I am very bad with. So I tried - and failed. The newly added UADx PolyMAX Synth did play so well together with Mariana, that I decided to let them play for quite some time. It adds a nice layer of high notes to the distorted 303is soundscape.
Oh, totally forget the randomized percussions. I used a randomizer plugin to occasionally play some random percussion. This adds nice variations and makes everything more breakish.
Last but not least I added some FXish sounds from the Marianna presets. And here we are.
